Your profile:
A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or Media Studies or other cognate
discipline; background in media governance and/or media structures and
organisation and particularly in digital media. Willingness to support the
editing of the International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics- some
experience in a similar role will be an advantage. Competence in both
qualitative and quantitative methods; preferably with scholarly
publications, and promising potential for original high-level research.

The successful applicant will provide research support in the area of
political economy of digital communications, copyright and intellectual
property and their role in cultural production. The successful candidate
will work with Professor Katharine Sarikakis and support the Chair in the

DOCTORAL POSITION
DEADLINE 27 JANUARY 2011

Research Assistant position (predoctoral) for 4 years (30 hours per week)
from 1 February 2010 or sooner thereafter, at the Institute of
Communication, the University of Vienna.

The job: Dissertation in the field of Media Structures, Media Governance;
active cooperation in the establishment of international networks and
organisation of international conferences.

You will be working with Professor Dr Katharine Sarikakis in the broader
field of media structure, media organisation and media governance.

Your profile: you are a university graduate in Communication or Media
Studies/Sciences or other cognate discipline, such as Political Sciences
with focus on Media and Communication.

You have a thorough understanding and knowledge in policy analysis and
political economy of the media and in particular Social Media. You can
demonstrate a successful and very good trajectory of academic performance.
It is an advantage if you can also speak one more language. You
have experience in working with word documents, SPSS. Knowledge of network
analysis software will be an advantage.

You will work on the topic of Structures and Organisation of Social Media:
the political economy of privacy policy. We would welcome a brief proposal
outline within this area of study.
