Call for Papers
The Finnish Youth Research Society is pleased to announce that the 11th NYRIS symposium Global / Local Youth – New Civic Cultures, Rights and Responsibilities will take place at the University of Turku in Turku, Finland, 13–15 June 2011 and the Call for Papers is now open!
NYRIS 11 focuses on youth as a global and local construction. Young people make sense of their world in a context where local decisions have global consequences and global issues influence the local. The global economical power structures are more and more decisive both in local decision making of child and youth politics and in the everyday lives of young people. NYRIS11 highlights questions such as youth as a global construction versus localized youth cultures, rights of young people and children, generational power relationships, age-related categorizations of youth, gendered power dynamics as well as questions concerning in/equalities of young people between nation-states and geopolitical contexts.
Conference key note speakers include the highly recognized academics Professor Scott Lash (Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK), Associate Professor Sunaina Maira (University of California, USA), Associate Professor Vinod Chandra (Lucknow University, India), Research Director Leena Suurpää (Finnish Youth Research Society) and Associate Professor Karen Valentin (Aarhus University, Denmark).
The Call for Papers is now open. Abstracts, written in English, should be submitted online before 31 January 2011.
The registration will open in December 2010 and will continue until April 2011.
The official language of the conference is English.
