Idag är jag på World Anti Bullying Forum som är Friends forskarkonferens. Friends har länge försökt närma sig forskningen efter att i många år ha arbetat med metoder som inte baserats på forskning. Men nu har det skett en kursändring och sedan några år arrangerar de alltså en internationell forskarkonferens i Stockholm. De har tagit in några väldigt intressanta keynotes.

Jag har för första gången på länge tagit mig för att presentera min forskning på en konferens. Så mycket av min tid går åt till andra saker men nu har jag några extremt intressanta saker på gång och då tänkte jag att det är dags att stöta och blöta ett av projekten med andra forskare. Och även tvinga mig själv att nå ut med min forskning internationellt. Så jag tänkte röra om lite i grytan och presentera

Exploring the theory of childism as a bullying preventive measure

This paper aims to offer an additional perspective on harassment and discrimination by problematizing children’s position in society. Drawing on the theory of childism (Alderson, 2005, Dunkels, 2016), it explores the concept of a power structure underpinned by age and its possible implications for childhood conditions in general and bullying in particular. The theory of childism claims that it is possible to identify a power structure that allows and promotes discrimination and stereotyping of children and youth, and the present paper offers a possible development of this theory. For this purpose the paper uses gender theory, specifically that of ambivalent sexism (Glick & Fiske, 1996) and intersectional theory (Berger & Guidroz, 2009). Furthermore, it uses the Swedish concept normkritik (Bromseth & Darj, 2010), which claims that destructive societal norms need to be de-constructed and in this process, privilege is identified and challenged. The paper concludes that childism amounts to being an existing power structure that needs to be exposed and counteracted in order to promote equal rights and prevent bullying.
